Hurricane Katrina in Bay St Louis, MS.

This March, over spring break, the Catholic Student Center sent a team of twelve to help with recovery from Hurricane Katrina in Bay St Louis, MS. The team spent their spring break removing the moldy and destroyed carpeting, furniture, drywall, paneling, appliances, and personal effects from two different homes. They also put up a new ceiling in a day care center that was being rebuilt, worked on reorganizing a distribution depot that was set up shortly after the hurricane, and spent time working in the offices of Foundation Hope, an organization that was administering a 5 million dollar grant for building supplies to help the people of Bay St Louis to rebuild.

The team used their time to learn about the devastation and see how people move on, discuss their faith, and growing closer in community. The people who benefited from the service were so very appreciative, and know that without the help of volunteers like those from the CSC, the gulf coast would have a much longer road to recovery.
