Low-gluten hosts available

Low-gluten hosts are available at Mass for those with celiac disease or wheat allergies. Please let a campus minister know before Mass that you need one, and a Eucharistic Minister will bring it to you during communion.

Sacraments

The mission of the Catholic Student Center is to foster the spiritual formation of students of Washington University. Because of this specific mission, we must abide by guidelines issued by the Archdiocese of St. Louis about who is eligible to receive the sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Marriage, and Funeral.

In addition, weddings and funerals can only be held on weekends while classes are in session.

Students

All sacraments are available to CSC students.

Marriage

Those seeking information about marriage, congratulations! The marriage preparation process is a blessed journey, and we are grateful and look forward to accompanying you on that journey.

Marriage at the CSC is reserved for those who are active, registered members of our worshiping community. Weddings for children of registered members requires the approval of the CSC Director.

Those who qualify to be married at the CSC should contact the Sacramental Coordinator, Carol Jones, with your initial request.

  • The Archdiocese of St. Louis requires a minimum six-month preparation period prior to the wedding day. For those who qualify to be married at the CSC, we have two wedding coordinators who will guide the couple through the preparation process. The coordinators also will lead the rehearsal and assist with the ceremony on wedding day.

Couples for whom the CSC is their home parish but are getting married in another city may complete their marriage prep with one of our wedding coordinators.

  • Because Graham Chapel is a non-denominational church, Catholic weddings can be held there only under special conditions as directed by the Archdiocese. Couples who have a relationship to Washington University and/or are registered at the Catholic Student Center are permitted to have a Catholic wedding at Graham Chapel. Note that a Catholic wedding ceremony only (no Mass) is permitted. You must reserve Graham Chapel through Washington University Event Management Department.

  • Couples who qualify to be married at the CSC must find their own presider. They are welcome to contact Fr. Brian, Fr. Gary, Deacon Phil, or Deacon Jim to see if they are available on the couple’s wedding date. With permission, couples may also bring their own presider to the CSC or Graham Chapel.

Baptism

Baptisms at the CSC are reserved for active, registered members of our worshiping community and alumni of Washington University. Those who qualify should contact the Sacramental Coordinator, Carol Jones, with your initial request.

  • Godparents play an extremely important role in the lives of their godchildren. They serve as models of faith and help bear the responsibility of helping children grow in their Christian vocations. As such, godparents must meet the following requirements before serving as Godparent:

    • At least one godparent must be a fully initiated Catholic having received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist.

    • At least one godparent must attend Mass regularly on Sundays and Holy Days.

    • Godparents must be over the age of 16.

    • Godparents may not be the parent of the person being baptized.

    • Godparents must be living a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken.

Funerals

Our Funeral Coordinators will work with the family to plan the funeral or memorial and will be present to coordinate on the day of the event. Pre-planning a funeral or memorial is also welcome. All requests for a funeral or memorial Mass require the approval of the CSC Chaplain. Contact the Sacramental Coordinator, Carol Jones, with your initial request.
